Newnan businesswoman Mollie Trammell will be heading to Washington, D.C., this week where she will be honored as Republican Businesswoman of the Year for Georgia.
Trammell, who is executive director and founder of S&T Assessment and Counseling Service in Newnan, will represent the Peach State at the National Republican Congressional Committee's Tax Summit and March Dinner. Events begin Tuesday at the Washington Hilton and Towers and continue through Thursday.
Trammell also will receive the NRCC's Ronald Reagan Republican Gold Medal.
S&T is "a Georgia service provider," Trammell said. The firm works with the Georgia Juvenile Justice Department and the Department of Family and Children Services. The company recently began offering specialized programs to private companies.
S&T is also moving toward offering on-line classes. The company's staff includes a full-time psychologist.
Trammell said S&T has been located at the Newnan Lofts but is gearing up for open house at its new location on Calumet Parkway.
U.S. Rep. Tom Reynolds (R-NY) is chairman of the NRCC. He spoke highly of Trammell. She "has long supported Republican ideals, like debt reduction and tax reform as they relate to the growth and stability of small business in this country," he said.
Those who are selected to receive the Reagan Medal are invited to participate in periodic strategy briefings to provide input on economic and tax issues, as well as how to build broad-based support for conservative initiatives within the business community. Trammell's name will be added to those of other Reagan Medal recipients on a permanent list at the NRCC headquarters in Washington.
Reynolds said the medal, which features an engraved portrait of the late president, is a "coveted honor." He congratulated Trammell on her accomplishment and said he looks forward to her "continued participation as a key member of" BAC.
The Business Advisory Council was organized in 1995 by the National Republican Congressional Committee. The BAC is a group of conservative business leaders who advocate a progressive, conservative, pro-business agenda.
Karl Rove, Pres. George W. Bush's senior advisor, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the Businesswoman of the Year Luncheon on Wednesday. Trammell and other state winners are scheduled to receive the clear obelish award trophies at the luncheon.
Trammell is also one of 100 guests invited to a luncheon with Vice Pres. Richard Cheney. In addition, she has been invited to a breakfast with conservative broadcaster Sean Hannity.
Trammell grew up in Luthersville. She continues to live outside Luthersville with her husband, Charles
